Gourmet Festival Budapest: Chicken Paprikash On The Menu, 21 - 24 May
- 20 May 2015 2:15 AM
Two years ago it was the goulash, last year the potato casserole and this year the chicken paprikash is in the spotlight during Gourmet Festival, held on Pentecost weekend. Prominent writer, István Czifray, wrote the following lines on this dish back in 1840: "Take two or more chickens and cut them in pieces. Sweat some butter or fat in a brass pan and spice it with paprika, allspice, onion and cook until it turns yellow - then toss the cut chicken in it...". At this year's Gourmet Festival we can learn how the best chefs of the country will bring this emblematic dish back.
Gourmet will also host international cuisine. Besides the local restaurant exhibitors, star chefs from outside Hungary will also cook on the gastro stage, where non-stop food and drink tastings will happen.
In the street food category, the newcomers are the grill and barbecue (BBQ) and some exciting information will be revealed why grilling cannot be confused with BBQ, so why the slow cooking over smoke is one of the most noble food making philosophy.
As a new venue at Gourmet will the Bocuse d'Or Academy, the local epicenter of the world's most prestigious chef championship. At this stand visitors can taste the 5 course menu of the Hungarian restaurants presented at the Hungarian stand at the Bocuse d'Or in Lyon this January.
In addition, visitors can also taste the food of the best restaurants of the countryside, the most exciting rural tastes, Michelin star restaurants among the exhibitors and the program as well.
