Együtt Calls On Hungarian Govt To Stop Building Football Stadiums
The opposition Együtt party is calling on the government to stop state-owned companies sponsoring first-division soccer teams, party leader Viktor Szigetvári said. The government spends much more on soccer than what the budget would allow.

Although average attendance at matches dropped from last year’s 2,900 to 2,500 this year, the 160 billion forint (EUR 517m) stadium construction scheme, including the “mistaken enlargement” of the Puskás Ferenc Stadium, continues, he said.

Szigetvári said the money should rather be spent on education, training young athletes, building gyms and pools as well as raising the wages of teachers and coaches.
