Socalists Demand Hearing Into Report Of Stolen Paks Data
In light of a report in tabloid Blikk that devices containing classified data related to the Paks nuclear power station have been stolen from a car parked in Budapest, the Socialist Party has demanded that the authorities brief parliament’s national security committee on the matter. Zsolt Molnár, the committee’s (Socialist) chairman, said in a statement that if it is indeed the case that the theft occurred, information should be given about whether data had been handled correctly.

The company that manages the power plant earlier insisted that the laptop had the most up-to-date hardware and software protections. Blikk reported on Saturday that a senior manager’s laptop and several data storage devices had been stolen from a car.

The data related to plans for the expansion of Hungary’s sole nuclear plant. The company said in a statement that it would not comment further until a police probe has been concluded.

The LMP and Együtt parties called for parliament’s national security committee to be convened and demanded a report from the government.

News website nol.hu cited Attila Samu, the interior ministry’s press chief, as saying that the storage devices stolen from the manager’s car contained no classified information.
