Hungary’s Parliamentary Speaker: Migration Crisis Could Mean End Of “Political Correctness”
The migration crisis could put an end to “political correctness” when western European citizens realise that promises made by their political leaders cannot be kept, Gergely Gulyás, the deputy parliamentary speaker, said in an interview to the daily Magyar Idők. Europe must protect its own interests or else the entire continent will eternally weaken, Gulyás said. Political leaders elected in the EU member states will have to face the reality that the opinion of their voters is squarely different from theirs, he said.

Voters have realised through their own experience that the situation is untenable and the “hypocritical and mendacious” migration policies of their elected leaders cannot be accepted any more, he added.

Asked about ties with Romania, Gulyás said that building a fence along a section of the common border would be a “technical necessity” rather than a “symbolic act”.

“The EU’s Schengen borders must be protected and the EU politicians criticising Hungary for erecting a fence have not come up with another option.” Gulyás said that Hungary’s recent conflicts with Romania and Croatia had developed because these neighbouring countries were either “dishonest” or “miscalculated their strength”.

He said that the crisis in Syria cannot be resolved, or would be very hard to be resolved without involving Russia. “Ending the war in Syria as soon as possible is in Europe’s elementary interest,” Gulyás said.
