Budapest-Belgrade Rail Line Upgrade Agreement Finalised
Preparation of an agreement on a Chinese-financed project to upgrade the Budapest-Belgrade railway line is drawing to a close, Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Péter Szijjártó told reporters on Wednesday following talks in Beijing. He said the three parties had agreed on the most important political questions and all indications are that the prime ministers of the three countries can sign the document next week.

Plans call for 350km of track need to be upgraded into an electrified railway line, of which 166km pass through Hungary and 184km through Serbia.

The agreement on building the railway line was signed in Belgrade last December.

China’s Export-Import Bank is financing 85% of the Ft 800 billion project.
