State Award Presented To Transylvanian - Hungarian Politician
Deputy House Speaker Sándor Lezsák presented a state award to ethnic Hungarian politician Károly Király, founder of the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (RMDSZ), in Parliament. The Hungarian Medal Middle Cross with the Star was awarded by President János Áder to the politician in recognition of his efforts to advocate the rights of Transylvanian Hungarians and towards their self determination.

Király, a former deputy president of the Senate of Romania and a former senator representing Covasna County (Kovászna), in central Romania, was also recognised for his enduring role in Romania’s democratisation.

Presenting the award, Lezsák said Király’s name in the 1970s and 1980s had been synonymous with hope.

Király said he had made efforts to serve Transylvanian Hungarians and promote Romanian-Hungarian friendship.
