Hungarian Ökotárs Foundation To Be Excluded From Norway Fund Support
The Ökotárs Foundation will not be a part of the distribution of Norway Funds in the future, the Prime Minister’s Office said. As a result of talks with Norway about the future handling of funding from the country, it was agreed that Ökotárs should not be involved in the distribution of funding, the office said. The Hungarian government considers its earlier concerns raised about Ökotárs still valid, it said.

The Government Control Office (Kehi) filed complaints last November, claiming irregularities while auditing Norway grants.

The tax office NAV in December last year ordered an investigation for suspected misappropriation of public funds in connection with Norway grants.

The investigation was closed on October 7 “due to lack of evidence of a crime”. A Budapest court ruled in January last year that a police raid at the Ökotárs headquarters in September 2013 was unlawful.
