Vast Majority Of Hungarians Reject Stadium Spending
Four-fifths of Hungarians would like to see the government spend less money on football stadiums, Socialist Party executive committee member Balázs Bárány told reporters on Monday, citing a new survey. In all, 77% of respondents to a survey by the Publicus Institute commissioned by Vasárnapi Hírek said they have never been to a first division football game, and 88% do not plan to do so.

Two-thirds said they do not follow the sport on TV.

Most respondents said they would instead devote the billions of forints spent on football stadiums to health care, eradicating poverty, and schools.

“The stadiums have become the symbols of the Orbán regime; 80% of Hungarians are not interested in those symbols,” Bárány said.

More precisely, 59% of respondents said much less should be spent on football stadiums, 21% said somewhat less, while 4% would spend somewhat more on stadiums and 1% considerably more.
