Crime Down In Budapest, Says Police Chief

Last year, 15,982 fewer criminal cases were reported in Budapest than in 2014, municipal police chief Gábor Bucsek told a press conference on Monday. Bucsek said that the efficiency of investigations has also increased, thus contributing to a “subjective sense of security” in the city.
Concerning the details, the police chief said that crimes committed in public spaces was down by one fifth.
Homicide cases dropped from 43 to 33, and in all cases the perpetrators were identified; robberies went from 824 to 639, mugging cases from 1,375 to 1,242, and 1,859 cars were stolen as opposed to 2,709 in 2014, he added.
Concerning drug abuse, Bucsek said that over 72 kilograms of marijuana, 1,270 cannabis plants, 950 grams of cocaine, 13 kilos of amphetamine, 31,300 tablets and 2.5 kilos of heroin were seized last year.
On the subject of illegal migrants, Bucsek said that 4,092 illegal entrants had been apprehended last year, as opposed to around 1,000 the previous year.
