TEK To Close Streets On March 15
The head of the Anti-Terrorist Centre, János Hajdu, yesterday ordered that the streets around the National Museum be closed on March 15, when Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will give a speech in the museum garden. The decision affects the area where the Civil Society for the Democratic Hungary announced a demonstration on Múzeum körút on that day.

A court earlier annulled a police ruling that would have banned the rally. The judge said police should have substantively examined the announcement, as restriction of the right to assembly was not absolutely necessary.

Police reportedly said there would be no room for the 8,000-10,000 people announced by rally organiser Zoltán Büki alongside the 40,000-50,000 expected for Orbán’s speech.

The TEK will close the area bounded by Astoria, Múzeum körút, Baross utca, Szentkirályi utca and Rákóczi út from midnight to 1 p.m. March 15.

Later that day, the Tanítanék Group which supports protesting teachers will proceed from Heroes Square via Andrássy út to Parliament from 3 p.m. More than 25 NGOs have said they will take part.
