Habony Launches Free Daily Newspaper
Publisher Modern Média Group, owned by Árpád Habony and former Mahír CEO Tibor Gyõri, will launch a free daily newspaper from June 6, CEO Péter Keresztesi announced at the Media Hungary conference.

Called Lokál, the new publication will be distributed in Budapest to compete with Metropol, the free daily published by Lajos Simicska.

The 16-page Lokál will be distributed at metro and tram stations where Metropol formerly had racks until Budapest public transport company BKV severed its 10-year co-operation with Metropol at the end of last year.

The existing weekly called Lokál will change its name to Lokál Extra. The integrated editorial office of the daily and weekly will have a staff of 30, Keresztesi said.

The tabloid will have a print run of 150,000, he added.
