Govt Issues Position To Correct ‘Misleading’ EU Doc On Public Survey
The Hungarian government has published on its website a position to highlight “basic facts” which were “neglected or distorted” in a document compiled by the European Commission concerning Hungary’s public survey dubbed “national consultation” now under way.

The “extremely misleading” EC document suggests, for example, that liberalisation of the energy markets lead to lower retail prices, while in fact European Union members raised the price of electricity by an average 20% and that of gas by 25% between 2010 and 2015, the government communications centre said in a statement.

“And now Brussels would strip members of the right to regulate electricity prices -- that is why we need to protect Hungary’s scheme to reduce utility prices,” the statement said. According to the government statement, the EC document “keeps quiet” about a proposal under which migrants could be re-settled in Hungary without a cap on their number.

“We cannot allow others to decide with whom we should live,” it said, adding that “despite attacks by the EC”, the government is committed to fighting “the migrant business”.

It is not acceptable that “agencies financed from abroad should file suits against Hungary using loopholes in ill-advised European regulations”, it said.

The statement added, however, that “Hungary is working towards a strong Europe and seeks to change Brussels’ policies so that Europe can remain the best place in the world”.
