Hundreds Rally For Journalist Thrown Out Of Forum
- 8 May 2017 7:00 AM
Fidesz rejected the claims made by journalist Júlia Halász, saying that she took photographs and videos of the event and wanted to provoke the audience as Economy Minister Mihály Varga and Defence Minister István Simicskó promoted the government’s campaigns against the EU and George Soros.
Halász said local party official László Szabó seized the telephone from her hand, deleted photographs, pushed her and then grabbed her arm and pulled her out of the building.
Fidesz dismissed her claims as unfounded, and said security cameras and witnesses could verify this, and that the party would sue Halász for slander.
444 chief editor Péter Uj responded by writing that Fidesz’s “cynical and arrogant” statement accuses the journalist of lies and provocation.
He said the forum organisers should present a recording that they made after Halász was assaulted, which shows her asking for help.
