Áder said he was “shaken” to learn about the casualties and damage the fires in Leiria region have caused. The president expressed sympathies to the relatives of the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

“We share your country’s grief and stand by Portugal in these difficult times”, Áder said in the letter.
