Magyar was responding on Monday evening to a speech by Meszaros, who maintained close ties to the previous government.

At a company family day event at the weekend, Meszaros said his group was ready to cooperate with the current government and his group was tied to the Hungarian state "in a thousand ways".

In a video posted on his wife's Facebook page, Meszaros said his group provided jobs for 60,000 people, with another 100,000 suppliers dependent on it.

Meszaros, a childhood friend of former prime minister Viktor Orban, also spoke about his group's uninterrupted growth and expansion on international markets.

Magyar responded: "I wonder what this guy is on. He loves to kiss everyone. P.S. A good lawyer is needed here."

Meanwhile, Tarr sacks House of Terror Museum's Schmidt

The minister for culture and social relations has sacked Maria Schmidt from her post heading the House of Terror Museum, the Budapest-based memorial and exhibition dedicated to the victims of the fascist Arrow Cross and communist-era secret police regimes which she led since 2002.

Zoltan Tarr also announced on Facebook on Tuesday that the museum is closing down temporarily, pending completion of a comprehensive review of the exhibition's content and clarification of relevant rights issues.

The museum will reopen later this year, "once the final professional, financial, and operational frameworks are in place", he added.

The museum opened in 2002 under the Central and Eastern European History and Society Research Foundation (KKETTK), one of the public interest asset management foundations (kekva) that was subsequently established but which the government recently scrapped.

The kekva foundations were set up by the fourth Orban government to ensure that "tasks of public interests should be completed independent of governments at any time".

Prime Minister Peter Magyar said earlier that "scrapping the foundations does not mean scrapping their tasks; they will be performed as state services."

According to an earlier statement by Schmidt, the operations of the museum and other KKETTK institutions, including the 20th and 21st Century Institutes, the Kertesz Institute, the Habsburg Historical Institute and the Eotvos Institute "have always been transparent, efficient, and lawful".
