On behalf of the Hungarian people, Áder expressed condolences to the families and friends of the victims. “In these difficult hours, all of us share sympathy with those who lost their loved ones in the terrorist attack.”
In an interview to public television on Wednesday, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said the attack in New York clearly showed that “the threat of terror is a global phenomenon”. He added that information so far suggested that no Hungarians had been affected by the attack.
He said the top objective of every political leader should be to guarantee the security of their people and countries. Hungary is an ally of the US in the struggle against terrorism, he said, noting that Hungary has participated in the fight against the Islamic State for the past two years.
“Allies in the global fight against terrorism can continue to count on Hungary,” the minister added.
