Local Opinion: Left Should Start From Scratch
A moderate conservative pundit thinks that the Left should reconsider its policies in order to regain the support of voters. If they want to succeed, they need to completely change their strategy, he suggests.

On Mandiner, Gellért Rajcsányi identifies the main challenges facing the Left after the defeat in the April 8 election as of both a personal and a strategic character.

The conservative  blogger predicts that the current left-wing parties will have a hard time to regain their popularity. DK leader and former-PM Ferenc Gyurcsány is a highly divisive figure, while the MSZP has lost its network and electoral base, Rajcsányi writes.

He adds that the politicians from both parties were accused of corruption when they were in office, and thus cannot convincingly promise more transparent governance. As for their target audience, the Left should turn to voters in the countryside rather than focusing on ‘urban elites’.

All this requires money, which they should collect through small donations from individual supporters, Rajcsányi continues. All in all, he concludes, the renewal of the Left will require immense determination and hard work
