More than 180 exhibitors and publications from 76 Hungarian publishers and 16 from abroad will be on display at the book week.
MKKE and the Hungarian Jewish Cultural Association will stage a joint remembrance at Kossuth Lajos utca 16 on June 15 to mark the anniversary of the destruction of the works of 120 Hungarian Jewish and 130 foreign authors on that day in 1944.
From the organisers:
Festive Book Week, the biggest celebration of contemporary Hungarian literature is being held for the 89th time this year between 7-11 June.
The original dream of Géza Supka – for publishers, writers and readers to meet and celebrate in an unceremonious fashion – have turned into a five-day festival of book launches, discussions, book signings and concerts, with almost two hundred publishers offering their book to browse and buy. And this is only at Vörösmarty Square, Budapest, the main sites of the event.
All over the country many cities are organizing their own events for the Book Week, and so does Kolozsvár, across the border.
The ceremonial opening of the Book Week will take place at Vörösmarty Square on 7 June, Thursday, at 16.00.
Writer Judit Berg will open the event.
To signal the start of the festivities outside the capital, another ceremony will be held at Szekszárd.
Here on this site you will find details of the various events and book signings.
More than 300 books are being timed to be launched for this occasion – soon we will share the list of them.
We hope to see you again this year at the Festive Book Week to celebrate together, as we should – we are all readers, after all!
