New 500 Forint Launched
The National Bank of Hungary will replace the 500 forint as the final element of a banknote replacement programme started in 2014. The old 500 forint bills will remain in circulation until October 31, 2019.

The new 500 forint bills will become legal currency from July 4, but will not come into broad circulation until February 1, 2019.

Hungary's score on the index, which assesses the digitalisation of consumer payments in the areas of market readiness, digital payment adoption and consumer knowledge and attitudes, improved twelve points in five years, Mastercard said.
