4 Top Teashops In Budapest
As the days are still short and the weather is cold outside, it's a good time to explore the local tea culture and enjoy a warming cuppa. On offer are refreshing black, white and green varieties which can lift your spirits and even heal you.

Tea, known in China for 5000 years, arrived in Europe in the early 1600's in more than 3000 varieties. Here’s a quick guide about where to enjoy top teas in Budapest.

1000 Tea

Believe it or not, on one of the most beautiful and busiest shopping streets, there is also a little haven of peace. If after the long hours of shopping you’d like to get away from the crowds filling the street, 1000 Tea is the best option.

Beanbags, a magical inner courtyard and board games await those who long for harmony. If you enjoyed your hot drink, you can also take it home with you as the most delightful taste combinations can be bought in the tea shop next door.

Address: 1056 Budapest, Váci u. 65.

Vörös Oroszlán Teahouse

The name of this tea house, The Red Lion, refers to the title of the famous novel by writer Mária Szepes. The team members here are dedicated to serving their guests in keeping with the writer’s spiritual heritage: with respect and love.

With over 100 varieties of delicious teas, enchanting booths, hookah pipes and the Tree of Life displayed in the upstairs gallery, visitors are guaranteed to come away refreshed. Teas can be ordered for take away, or you can place an order with their web shop.

Address: 1061  Budapest, Jókai tér 8.

Mozaik Teahouse & Coffee Shop

Mozaik Teahouse and Cafe is located in another busy part of the city: Király Street, one of the centres of Budapest night life. It is a popular meeting place, where the respectable offering of tea varieties is matched by delicious breakfast; the home-made cakes and toasties are also quite remarkable. There is a chalk board upstairs where you can leave a message for posterity.

Address: 1061 Budapest, Király u. 18.

Sirius Teahouse

Over the 16 years since it opened, this teahouse has gained a cult following: guests can choose from 80-odd tea varieties to be enjoyed in a maze-like building on multiple floors, with its hidden galleries, soft beanbags, stools, hookah pipes and flickering lights.

Sirius is a truly magic land, and when you emerge from it, it does feel as if you’ve been in an entirely different world altogether.
