Pay Rise For Hungarian Nurses Announced
The cabinet approved the biggest increase in healthcare salaries since 1990 at its Wednesday meeting, Prime Minister’s Office leader Gergely Gulyás told a press conference on Thursday.

Nurses’ salaries will be raised by 20% from November 1, and by another 30% from January 1, 2022.

Following similar measures in recent years, this adds up to a 72% pay raise, he said.

Doctors will have a 125% raise from January 1, 2021.

An intern who has been working for three years will have a Ft 613,000 gross monthly salary and a physician who has been working for 40 years Ft 1.7 million.

Gulyás stated that the cabinet is pleased to have reached an agreement with the Medical Chamber and that Parliament passed the related bill unanimously.

The Chamber has in fact objected to several elements of the bill.

Gulyás said the cabinet considers the termination of “gratitude money” and pay levels aimed at stopping the emigration of doctors to be very important.

He acknowledged that the bill limits the possibility for doctors to work both for the state system and in private practice, but said the cabinet does not want to ban this entirely. The cabinet aims to develop regulations that allow for this within reasonable limits, he added.
