Coronavirus: Many On Ventilators In Hungary Do Not Survive
About 30% of coronavirus patients who were put on ventilators during the first wave of the epidemic died, but the corresponding figure has risen during the second wave to 40-45%, head doctor János Szlávik of the Southern Pest Central Hospital told ATV on Sunday evening.

Besides the oft-mentioned risk groups of the elderly and the chronically ill, he stressed that Down’s syndrome patients are also exposed to increasing danger.

Earlier on, the majority of patients became infected at family events or large gatherings, but now the virus is spreading in communities and it is not possible to ascertain where individuals caught the virus, he added.

Szlávik said it is becoming increasingly common that patients are hospitalised who have taken every precaution yet still caught the coronavirus.
