Coronavirus: Curfew Restrictions Extended Indefinitely

The government will indefinitely extend the curfew imposed two weeks ago due to the coronavirus epidemic, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced on Facebook on Thursday.

The head of government said that possible further extensions would be considered and decided on a weekly basis.

The government has also decided to grant a special license to the mayors, so that they can create and implement additional special, stricter rules for their own settlement until the end of the Easter holiday, the PM said.

He also said that before the extension of the curfew, the mayors were heard, the opinion of the police was sought, they spoke to epidemiologists and the opinions of the scientists were also considered.

There was a consensus that previous restrictions were successful in slowing down the spread of the epidemic, Viktor Orbán said.

In a statement, the PM called on people to abide by restrictive rules, avoid group gatherings, keep their distance in public places, and pay more attention to the elderly.

"Let's accept that this Easter will be different from what our Easter is going to be," the PM said, asking us to "take care of each other" at Easter as well.
