Hungary’s government has launched an investigation following claims that Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó may have been targeted in a surveillance operation involving foreign intelligence services and a Hungarian journalist.
Germany has openly threatened Hungary over its position on the Ukrainian oil blockade, but the government will not abandon national interests or allow Ukrainian actions to triple energy costs for Hungarian families, Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said in Brussels on Monday.
"The Ukrainians are trying to take us for stupid concerning the Druzhba pipeline halted purely for political reasons, but we are not stupid people, we are Hungarians," the foreign minister said in Brussels on Monday.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has effectively issued a death threat against Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Péter Szijjártó, the foreign minister, declared at a public forum on Thursday in Sopron. "But Hungary cannot be blackmailed, no matter what threats are made," he said, adding that Zelensky had gone "beyond all limits".
