Stats Show More Domestic Tourists In Hungary, But Far Less Foreign Guests

More domestic tourists stayed at commercial accommodation in Hungary in July than in July of last year, state tourism agency MTÜ announced based on figures from state tourism data centre NTAK.
The NTAK receives daily tourism data from service providers.
The total number of domestic guests rose to 1.2 million from 1.1 million a year earlier and also up from 460,000 in June.
Domestic guests spent 3.6 million guest nights last month.
In addition, 200,000 foreign guests spent 700,000 guest nights, down from 694,000 visitors and 1.9 million guest nights in July of last year.
In the Lake Balaton region, 504,000 guests spent 1.7 million guest nights, with domestic guests accounting for 86% of the total.
The top five guest-sending countries were Germany, the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Austria.
Although it seemed in March that the pandemic would cancel this summer’s tourism season, domestic promotions have paid off, as Hungarians opted for domestic accommodations, the MTÜ said.
