Education Sector Suffered 2nd Highest Level of Deaths from Covid in Hungary
Only the healthcare sector has suffered more deaths from coronavirus than the education sector, as 140 teachers have fallen victim to the pandemic, Teachers’ Union vice-president Gábor Gosztonyi told Spirit FM radio station on Tuesday.

He said the coronavirus infection is appearing in more and more schools.

Although the union is prepared to switch over to digital classes, last year clearly showed that students lose ground because of that, and teachers will have to make up for that this year.

Gosztonyi said the health, social work and education sectors made the biggest sacrifices in combating the pandemic, but are “deeply underfinanced”.

As long as the cabinet “intentionally destroys the image of teachers,” it will be very hard to find teachers, he warned.

He said salaries are one element but if teachers had a predictable vision of the future, coupled with social esteem, many more people would return to their profession.
