Severe Cyberattack on Hungarian Primary IT System

The online voting system of the opposition primary was severely attacked from abroad on Saturday, organiser aHang announced.

As a result, almost no voting from abroad was possible during the last hours on the last day of the primary.

Online voting from within Hungary also became problematic.

Campaign director Gergely Hajdú said “The system stopped for a little while but then we were able to stabilise it, and practically 90% of the online voters were able in the end to vote. It is possible that a few hundred people could not vote.”

Earlier on Saturday, a similar overload attack also affected the servers of 444.

This was not the first time that the IT system of the primary was attacked: the first day of the first round had to be postponed by a day because of IT penetration.
