MOME Budapest Leads Development of Culturally Accurate AI Image Platform
- 1 Jul 2026 6:21 AM
The goal of the research and development project is to improve the representation of the visual and cultural heritage of Hungarian and other low-resource languages in generative artificial intelligence systems, the university said.
Current models are primarily based on global datasets in English, so the distinctive features of Hungarian visual culture are often misrepresented, it said. The initiative aims to correct this and support the preservation of cultural diversity in the digital space, the organisers added.
The development is based on multilingual datasets derived from museum and archival collections, complete with detailed metadata, which enable the creation of culturally grounded generative models.
The initiative's founder and academic director is Brigitta Ivanyi-Bitter, head of the Heritage in Motion Lab at the MOME Research Centre, and the international partners participating in the project include the University of Lisbon, the University of California, Los Angeles, and the Holon Institute of Technology.
