For example, some stations have set a 10-litre purchase limit.
The government imposed a maximum price of Ft 480 per litre for petrol and diesel for three months from November 15. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced on Saturday that the price freeze would be extended by another 90 days, to May 15.
The Hungarian Petroleum Association warned earlier that the intervention on the market would lead to a wave of bankruptcies as the wholesale price of fuel exceeds the retail price, pushing companies into the red.
The first signs of this happening are already showing, as fuel station operator Androméda plans to close all three of its stations in Tolna county when its stock runs out.
Tax office NAV has called on operators to notify authorities within 24 hours if they plan to suspend service.
