New Survey Says Márki-Zay's Popularity Continues to Fall Among “Politically Active” Hungarians
The popularity of Péter Márki-Zay, the prime ministerial candidate of the united opposition, has fallen further, with 68% of respondents seeing him unfavourably, the Századvég Foundation said on Monday.

According to the poll conducted among “politically active” Hungarians, the ratio of those supporting Márki-Zay fell to 29% from 33% last month, Századvég said.

Márki-Zay’s popularity has fallen constantly since he won the opposition nomination last October, with the ratio of those rejecting him growing from 47% to 68%, the pollster said.

Among those supporting the united opposition, 16% see him unfavourably, as do 26% of leftist voters, it said. Among voters identifying as centrist, 54% reject and 40% support him, it said.

He is popular with 12% of undecided voters, it said.

In Budapest, 61% of respondents said they rejected Márki-Zay, and 37% supported him, a plunge from January when sympathisers were up at 42%, against 52% of voters rejecting the candidate, Századvég said.
