Outbreak of War May Help Fidesz, According to Hungarian Poll
Fidesz has a firm lead in popularity ahead of the opposition alliance, and may benefit from the outbreak of war in Ukraine, according to the latest survey by pollsters Median.

The survey conducted during February 22-26 found Fidesz leading with 49% support among decided party voters while the opposition’s share is at 43%.

Median’s December survey showed the opposition with a lead of 45-44%.

Support for the Two-Tailed Dog Party and the far-right Mi Hazank has fallen from 6% and 5%, respectively, in December, to around 1% each now. Fidesz appears to be the beneficiary of this, HVG observes.

Last week, before war broke out, when income tax refunds and the 13th-month pension were in the news, Fidesz had a lead of four percentage points.

That lead swelled to 12 points after Russia invaded Ukraine.

Fidesz was doing rather better one month before the parliamentary elections in 2018, as it was supported by 54% of decided voters.
