There seems to be no solution to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and that leaves European politics “paralysed”, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.
Opposition parties held a demonstration for the direct election of the head of state in downtown Budapest on Sunday.
The prime minister in his state of the nation address said that President Katalin Novák’s resignation was “a great loss for Hungary” and thanked both Novák and former Justice Minister Judit Varga for their work.
European Union leaders were unable to agree on a €50 billion ($54 billion) aid package for Ukraine after Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban blocked it, sending the debate into early next year as the bloc struggles to counter concerns that Western support is faltering.
