Hungary's state of emergency, first declared in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and later in 2022 over the Russia-Ukraine war, has officially ended after six years.
The first task of Hungarian foreign policy will be to restore the trust and respect for Hungary in the European Union and NATO, Anita Orbán, the candidate for foreign minister, told parliament's European affairs committee on Monday.
Parliament approved a law to elevate state of emergency decrees issued in response to the armed conflict in Ukraine to legal status at its inaugural session on Saturday.
"I will not rule Hungary; I will serve my country," Prime Minister Peter Magyar declared after his election at the inaugural session of parliament on Saturday.
