Pick Hungary Concludes HUF 2.6 Billion R&D Project with Szeged University
Hungarian salami maker Pick Szeged and the University of Szeged (170 km southeast of Budapest) wound up a HUF 2.6 billion research and development project launched in the fall of 2017, according to origo.hu.

Pick Szeged CEO István Taács said the project aimed to improve the process of smoking and drying the company's salami as well as "standardizing" the characteristic white "noble" mold on its casing.

The researchers optimized cooling and packaging technology for the salami, reducing energy and packaging use, and automated some production processes, he added. He said Pick Szeged will continue its cooperation with the university on technology and product developments.

Ildikó Csóka, in charge of strategy at the University of Szeged, said the school aims to implement more joint R&D programs with industry partners.

She added that the university's natural sciences, IT, pharmaceutical and engineering faculties had participated in the project with Pick Szeged.

The iconic firm, a member of agribusiness Bonafarm, had net revenue of HUF 72.3 bln in 2020, according to public records.
