'Zsolnay Light Festival', Pécs, 7 – 10 July
The organizing team of Zsolnay Cultural Quarter experimented with creating a new tradition and an eye-catching common experience by starting their newest initiative: Zsolnay Light Festival.

At the first weekend of July visitors aiming to relax were awaited by a thematic, multi-arts festival, which merged the amazing legacy of the city’s 2,000 years of history with a fantasy world; prompts for playing and thinking on the border of the impressive past and an imaginary future, conveys values, entertains and delights.

During the day, the city center provided a background for the revival of the history and atmosphere of the past, and offered amazing experiences at the famous historical sites, public squares and hidden streets alike.

A whirl of cultural adventures awaited visitors: actors, musicians, special street entertainers and vendors offered the best of their works.

The mystical Early Christian Necropolis, the collection of buildings presenting the first Hungarian university, the monuments of Turkish occupation and the reborn Zsolnay factory buildings and residential buildings of the family have all come to life at the festival and have been animated by contemporary atmosphere, performances, and attractions.

As night fell, the audience of the festival got into another world where imagination took over the lead role. The city was engulfed by light, it was worth to restart the exploration amongst the stationary and moving light painting masterpieces, photographic structures and light installations.

Budapest’s streets tell stories long before you step into a museum. Crumbling façades sit next to grand imperial buildings, and between them you’ll often spot flashes of colour, humour and commentary in the form of stickers, paste-ups and murals. Street art has become one of the ways the city reflects on itself — its past, its politics and its pop culture.
