Better EU Roaming Quality from Today
A new EU regulation on mobile phone roaming takes effect from July 1, keeping the service free in the EU and the European Economic Area for an additional ten years until 2032, but with stricter requirements that improve quality.

Consumers will have the right to the same quality of mobile internet abroad as at home.

Mobile service providers must ensure that consumers have access to 4G or more advanced 5G networks, where they are available.

There is a separate provision on the prevention of unexpected hidden charges.

According to a European Commission study, 33% of Europeans had lower mobile internet speeds abroad than at home, and 28% were able to communicate only on a lower quality network, i.e., 3G instead of 4G.
