Innovative Grape-Based Gin Partnership Launched by Hungarian Uni & Winemaker
The University of Pécs and winemaker Danubiana have partnered to develop grape-based gin products using innovative technologies for grape processing.

The consortium won Ft 430 million in EU funds topped up by government subsidies for the project.

The parties will work out methods to extract the aroma compounds from grapes and use that technology to map the potential of various grape types for the same purpose.

The consortium includes the multiple award-winning Brill Pálinkaház, which will be responsible for distilling alcohol.

The project could boost the alternative use of grapes amid decreasing wine consumption, the parties said.

The consortium will develop three grape-based gin products with a unique character, ready for commercial sale by 2025.
