Erste Bank to Absorb Commerzbank Clients in Hungary
Erste Bank branches will be closed from 10 p.m. December 1 to midnight on December 4, as the bank takes over former Commerzbank clients, the bank announced.

The closure will not seriously affect retail clients, as bankcard purchases and cash withdrawals will still be possible.

Frankfurt-based Commerzbank signed the agreement on the sale of its Hungarian subsidiary to Erste Bank Hungary on December 17, 2021.

Authorities approved the deal in September this year.

Commerzbank clients may complete transactions at the latest on November 30.

Erste will activate the new bankcards for former Commerzbank clients on December 2.

The former Commerzbank clients and all Erste Bank clients will again have access to Erste’s usual range of services without restrictions from December 5.
