Hotels in Hungary Welcome Temporary Suspension of Tourism Tax
Hotels have welcomed news that the government has suspended the tourism tax from October 1 until March 31, 2023, Tamás Flesch, head of the Hotel and Restaurant Association, told Portfolio.

This decision will enable the managers of many rural hotels to stay open at the beginning of next year, because this way they can manage their increased energy costs, he said.

"Retaining this 4% of the sales revenue for half a year, not only for hotels, but also for many restaurants with a good turnover, can also mean that they can stay open during the heating season," he added.

In its tourism action plan announced on Wednesday, the government also simplified the different accounts of the SZÉP card. Henceforth there are no longer different budgets for different uses on the card, but a single, common budget for use as the card owner wishes.
