Finally, Budapest's Arany János Metro Station Reopens
The development project implemented through the upgrade of metro M3 is not only meant for the people of Budapest, and does not only serve the interests of the people of the capital city, Minister for Regional Development and EU Funds Tibor Navracsics said on Monday as he reopened the renovated line at the Arany János utca station.

He emphasised that the metro upgrade was implemented through the co-operation of the government, the city and the EU.

The final cost of the renovation was Ft 225 billion, of which Ft 178 billion came from the EU, Ft 40 billion – as a supplementary subsidy – from the cabinet and Ft 7 billion from the city, Navracsics recalled, adding that the EU money had been put to good use.

Some 500,000 passengers travel on the line daily, and 3,500 people worked on the upgrade.

Mayor Gergely Karácsony welcomed the completion of the project as gratifying for Budapest and the entire country.

He thanked the previous city leadership and former mayor István Tarlós, the Budapest Transport Company (BKV), the Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) and the builders, and expressed gratitude to the people of Budapest for their patience.
