Greenpeace Hungary Welcomes Lake Fertő Resort Project Losing Environmental Permit
A court has ordered the Győr-Moson-Sopron county government office to revoke the environmental permit issued for the government’s Lake Fertő resort project and instructed the authority to launch a new procedure, Greenpeace Hungary announced.

The NGO and the Friends of Lake Fertő Association filed a lawsuit on January 30, one month after the government office extended the permit for the previously suspended investment just before Christmas 2022.

Greenpeace welcomed the court ruling as a very important success, but said the ultimate goal is still to have the government fundamentally rethink its plans and carry out a much more modest, smaller-scale tourism development project that does not harm Lake Fertő “which has outstanding wildlife also from a European perspective”.

As the legal successor of the defunct state-owned project company, the Construction and Transportation Ministry must deal with the matter, the website 24 writes.
