Official Report: Most Expensive & Cheapest Places to Rent a Home in Hungary
Home rental rates went up by 1.8% from April to May, the Central Statistics Office reports, citing the database maintained by property agency ingatlan.com.

Rates rose more slowly in Budapest, going up by only 0.6% last month.

The annual growth in home rental fees was 15.6% in Hungary, and 16,5% in Budapest.

In Budapest, the average monthly rent of flats advertised by owners was Ft 230,000.

The highest rents are in the Second and Fifth Districts, at around Ft 350,000.

Elsewhere, the average rent is Ft 225,000 in the 11th District and Ft 240,000 in the 13th District.

The cheapest districts are the 17th, 21st and the 23rd, where apartments are offered for Ft 150,000-155,000.

Outside Budapest, Veszprém is the most expensive city, with average home rental rates of Ft 167,000, followed by Székesfehérvár, Debrecen and Tatabánya at Ft 160,000-165,000.

Salgótarján and Békéscsaba are among the cheapest cities, where home rents are advertised for Ft 90,000.

Analyst László Balogh of ingtalan.com said the rise in rents gained new momentum in 2023, but the rate of increase is below the rate of inflation.

Taking inflation into account, rents in May were 11% below the peak reached in August 2019.

The supply on the home rent market has also started to grow, which can be seen as a prelude to the summer season, Balogh added.
