Auction of 14 Chain Bridge Candelabras Announced
Budapest city council plans to sell the 14 candelabras that formerly stood on the Chain Bridge in a public 'single-round' auction, Telex reports.

The candelabras were removed before the renovation of the bridge began two years ago.

Anybody can take part in the bidding who obtains the auction documentation before 3 p.m. on July 31 from city asset manager Budapest Főváros Vagyonkezelő, accepts the terms and registers before August 2, and provides a Ft 200,000 auction deposit by midnight, August 1.

The price of the candelabras varies as to whether they have their decorations. The minimum bidding price is Ft 675,000 plus VAT for the least expensive one and Ft 1.1 million plus VAT for the most expensive item.

Renovation of the Chain Bridge began in March, 2021, and a full-scale formal reopening is expected next month.

Mayor Gergely Karácsony has recently announced that the bridge will be car-free.
