Hungary is in for an intense heatwave this week. From midweek, the days will get progressively hotter, with highs reaching up to 39°C on Friday and Saturday. Early in the week, a brisk wind in many areas will bring some relief, but in the second half of the week, conditions will meet the criteria for an official heat alert.
The National Chief Medical Officer raised the current level two heat alert to level three from Thursday and extended it until midnight on Saturday for the entire country.
Based on the latest forecast from HungaroMet, the Hungarian Meteorological Service, the Chief Medical Officer has issued a Level 2 heat alert for the entire country. The warning is in effect from midnight on Sunday, 20 July, until midnight on Thursday, 24 July.
Hungary’s Chief Medical Officer has issued a second-level heat alert for the entire country, in effect from Sunday, 30 June until Thursday, 4 July. According to forecasts from HungaroMet, temperatures are expected to exceed 25°C even in the early morning hours, especially in urban areas where buildings and paved surfaces retain heat throughout the night.
