Foreign Boss of Drug Smuggling Gang Caught in Budapest's Eighth District
The 60-year-old Albanian leader of a drug smuggling gang has been recaptured in Budapest’s Eighth District, the National Bureau of Investigations announced.

The authorities have been conducting legal proceedings for years against the gang suspected of smuggling drugs, mostly marijuana, from the Balkans to Hungary.

The ringleader’s son and a number of Hungarians took part in the gang’s activity.

The drugs were brought by various Albanian and Kosovar couriers to dealers in Hungary.

The profits were regularly taken to Serbia by the chief’s son or a Hungarian woman in close contact with them. Each shipment contained generally ten kilograms.

A court sentenced the leader of the gang to seven years in prison for similar crimes and expelled him from Hungary for eight years. The man was released last summer, and subsequently went into hiding.
