Soviet-Era Statues in Budapest’s Memento Park May Soon Collapse
Some statues in Budapest’s Memento Park of Soviet-era statuary may soon collapse due to deterioration, in part because the operator does not have enough income to restore the monuments that have been rusting for three decades, HVG reports.

This would require tens of millions of forints, but the park does not receive any grant money apart from operating support of Ft 100,000 per year from the 22nd District, which is just enough to keep the park in order and not be overrun by weeds.

The statue park, 30 years old this autumn, has been included in the seven most endangered heritage sites in Europe in a programme created by Europa Nostra and the European Investment Bank, designed to bring into the international public consciousness historical sites that are at risk of being forgotten and struggling with maintenance difficulties.

The park won €10,000, from which the operator can digitize three endangered works in such a way that they can be recreated later with 3D printing.
