Top Court Revokes Battery Factory Permit of Chinese Investor in Hungary
The Kúria has overturned a Debrecen Court ruling which approved the hazard management permit granted by the Hajdú Bihar County Disaster Management Authority to the battery factory being built by Chinese investor CATL, lawyer András Schiffer announced on Facebook.

Schiffer, the former LMP politician, was representing Nándor László Horváth, a Debrecen resident who had appealed against the granting of the permit.

The Kúria found that the disaster management authority violated the rules on providing information to the public, in part in how it disseminated information and by its process of staging a public hearing.

As a result, the supreme court ordered a completely new procedure.

The plan to build a battery factory in Debrecen provoked fierce opposition from the locals from the moment it was announced, HVG recalls.

The public hearing related to the project ended in a scandal, followed by a major demonstration against the project. However, the government was unperturbed by these events, and the battery factory subsequently received all the necessary permits without any problems, the weekly adds.
