New Survey Reveals Number of Young People in Hungary Able to Speak a Foreign Language
Some 30% of young Hungarian workers have been considering working abroad since the second half of the coronavirus pandemic, while 40% said no to this option, according to a survey of 19- to 29-year-olds, conducted for the K&H Youth Index.

Most of the focus group looked unfavourably at the Hungarian education system, with 64% saying it is not up to European standards, while only 16% thought it was.

A wide majority of 77% of young people said they speak a foreign language. The number was above 80% in Budapest but only 67% in small towns.

In addition, 84% of 19- to 25-year-olds said they can speak a foreign language, while only 65% of 26- to 29-year-olds were so confident.

An improvement can be seen since the beginning of 2021, as the proportion of young people speaking a foreign language has been steadily above 70%.
