Top 5 Free Things to Do in Budapest this January
Budapest is a city for everyone, even if you are on a tight budget. Welovebudapest.com have gathered six events happening this month that you can enjoy without spending a penny.

1. Explore the path of money at the Money Museum

Opened in 2022 in the impressive 'Post Palace' building, the Money Museum is free to visit. The world of banking and stock exchanges might sound a little dull at first, but kids will love how interactive the visit becomes.

It's a big strategy game where you can buy, sell and trade while getting to know the cultural history of coins. Admission is free but you need to book a time slot in advance.

More details and tickets here.

2. See Viktorina Csengeri's exhibition

Viktorina Csengeri is a Hungarian artist presenting her beautiful drawings at the Crafty Bar coffee shop throughout January. Witness personal yet surreal stories coming to life, all skillfully created with a simple marker.

Meanwhile, you can also sip on a Crafty Lager, admiring the design Viktoria created for the can.

3. Pop into Lámpás for an Open Mic

The concept of Open Mic hardly needs an introduction (in case it does: an evening where anyone can grab the mic for a little gig). Budapest is big on hosting these events too: this month, you can join exciting concerts at the 7th district bar Lámpás. Starting on January 7th, you can relish gigs in the surreal yet cosy venue every Sunday.

More details here.

4. Join an Intercultural Board Game Night

If you are a board game enthusiast, consider this your sign to drop by Open Doors Hungary. The communal space hosts an international board game night every Thursday evening, with the goal of meeting people and having fun.

5. Listen to live folk music at the Heritage House

Students of the Franz Liszt Music Academy showcase their knowledge in the form of a concert at the end of each semester, and the event is traditionally open to the public as well. In other words, starting from the morning of January 19th, you can enjoy almost six hours of the folk music program at the Heritage House.
