It was highlighted that during the seasonal thematic inspection, the authority's staff inspects catering units in locations most visited by tourists, public and occasional vendors deployed for events, and businesses providing passenger transport services - especially passenger taxi services.
It was detailed that government agencies under the professional guidance of the NKFH conduct inspections, among others, in catering establishments, buffets, roasteries, confectioneries, as well as music entertainment venues, festivals, and various events.
The inspections carried out with a magnifying glass in catering units cover, among other things, price information, the obligation to issue receipts, the authenticity of scales, and the customer book, while with regard to taxis, in addition to permits, the NKFH staff examine the fee schedule, price information, and the application of the appropriate tariff.
The presence of the consumer protection authority and the continuous inspections are also justified by the experiences of previous years.
In 2024, 326 violations were found during the inspections of 928 commercial units, which represents a complaint rate of approximately 35 percent. Last year, a total of 6 million 470 thousand forints were imposed in fines.
Lilla Német-Weingartner, President of the NKFH, explained in the statement that the NKFH will continue to conduct increased inspections of the areas in the future in order to ensure that consumers can enjoy services safely and that businesses' law-abiding behavior is further strengthened.
The inspections will start in May in order to ensure that consumers can shop safely in restaurants that comply with legal requirements and use taxi services during the high season.
The inspections will be carried out continuously throughout the summer, the President of the NKFH added.
The National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority remains committed to the safety of Hungarian consumers and is working with all means to ensure that only safe commercial and service activities are available on the Hungarian market, the NKFH announced.
